Mechanism of action
Bisoprolol selectively blocks beta-1 adrenergic receptors on the heart, decreasing sympathetic nervous system activity. This results in reduced heart rate, decreased force of cardiac contraction, and lower blood pressure. At high doses, it may also have modest beta-2 blocking effects, though selectivity for beta-1 is maintained.
