Mechanism of action
ACE inhibitors block the conversion of angiotensin I to angiotensin II, a potent vasoconstrictor. This leads to vasodilation, reduced aldosterone secretion, and decreased sodium and water retention, resulting in lower blood pressure and reduced cardiac workload. Ramipril is used to manage hypertension and heart failure.
