Mechanism of action
Lidocaine and bupivacaine are both local anesthetics that act by inhibiting the influx of sodium ions into nerve cells, which is necessary for the initiation and transmission of nerve impulses. This results in a temporary loss of sensation in the area where the anesthetic is administered.
