Mechanism of action

The vaccine contains live attenuated (weakened) rotavirus strains representing five common serotypes. When administered orally, it replicates in the intestinal epithelium and induces both humoral and mucosal immune responses, generating antibodies and cellular immunity against rotavirus antigens. This prevents infection and severe disease caused by wild-type rotavirus.
