Mechanism of action

Insulin detemir is a recombinant human insulin analog modified with a 14-carbon fatty acid chain that allows it to bind reversibly to albumin in the bloodstream, resulting in a prolonged and peakless duration of action (up to 24 hours). This extended half-life enables once or twice-daily dosing for basal insulin replacement in diabetes management. Like all insulins, it works by activating insulin receptors on muscle, fat, and liver cells to promote glucose uptake and storage while inhibiting gluconeogenesis.
