Levemir (INSULIN DETEMIR)
Levemir (generic name: INSULIN DETEMIR) is a Insulin Analog [EPC] Recombinant protein drug developed by Novo Nordisk. It is currently FDA-approved (first approved 2005) for Diabetes mellitus.
Levemir works by binding to the insulin receptor, triggering a response that lowers blood sugar levels.
Levemir is an insulin receptor agonist, a type of protein that acts as an agonist. It is used to treat conditions such as Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus and Type 1 Diabetes, as indicated by clinical trials.

Mechanism of action
Mechanism of Action. The primary activity of insulin detemir is the regulation of glucose metabolism. Insulins, including insulin detemir, exert their specific action through binding to insulin receptors.Receptor-bound insulin lowers blood glucose by facilitating cellular uptake of glucose into skeletal muscle and fat and by inhibiting the output of glucose from the liver. Insulin inhibits lipolysis in the adipocyte, inhibits proteolysis, and enhances protein synthesis.
