Cefazolin 2 GM Injection
Cefazolin 2 GM Injection is a First-generation cephalosporin Small molecule drug developed by Abdul El-Rabbany. It is currently FDA-approved for Bacterial infections caused by susceptible organisms (respiratory tract, skin and soft tissue, urinary tract, biliary tract, bone and joint infections), Surgical prophylaxis, Endocarditis prophylaxis in susceptible patients. Also known as: Single Dose IV Cefazolin.
Cefazolin inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins and blocking cross-linking of peptidoglycan.
Cefazolin 2 GM Injection is used to prevent infections in certain medical procedures, such as medical thoracoscopy, and has been studied for its efficacy and safety in treating conditions like pleural effusion, pleurisy, and empyema. It is administered as a single dose injection, and its mechanism of action involves inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, as indicated by its classification in ChEMBL.

Mechanism of action
Cefazolin is a first-generation cephalosporin that acts as a bactericidal agent. It penetrates the bacterial cell wall and binds to penicillin-binding proteins, preventing the cross-linking of peptidoglycan strands essential for cell wall integrity. This leads to cell wall rupture and bacterial death, making it effective against a broad spectrum of gram-positive and some gram-negative bacteria.
