Mechanism of action
Adapalene selectively activates retinoic acid receptor gamma (RARγ) and other retinoid receptors, promoting keratinocyte differentiation and reducing sebum production. It decreases comedone formation and has anti-inflammatory properties, making it effective for treating acne by normalizing follicular epithelial desquamation and reducing bacterial colonization.
