Because transthyretin misfolding plays an important role in transthyretin amyloid diseases, inhibiting such misfolding can be used as an effective treatment or prophylaxis for such diseases. Treatment methods, screening methods, as well as specific transthyretin stabilizing compounds are disclosed.
