Mechanism of action

Wasp venom immunotherapy (VIT) works by gradually exposing patients to increasing doses of wasp venom extract, which shifts the immune response from IgE-mediated (allergic) to IgG-mediated (protective) antibodies. This process induces regulatory T cells and reduces mast cell and basophil reactivity, thereby preventing anaphylaxis upon future wasp stings. The mechanism involves both immune tolerance induction and a reduction in allergen-specific IgE levels.
