Mechanism of action
Vonoprazan works by competitively inhibiting the H+/K+ ATPase enzyme in the parietal cells of the stomach, which leads to a decrease in gastric acid secretion. This results in a reduction in the symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and peptic ulcer disease. Additionally, vonoprazan has been shown to have a rapid onset of action and a long duration of effect, making it a useful treatment option for patients with GERD and peptic ulcer disease.
