Mechanism of action
Valproic acid is thought to exert its effects by inhibiting the reuptake of certain neurotransmitters, such as serotonin and dopamine, and by reducing the release of excitatory neurotransmitters. Corticosteroids, on the other hand, work by suppressing the immune system's response to inflammation, thereby reducing the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines and mediators.
