Mechanism of action
Torsemide blocks the Na-K-2Cl cotransporter in the thick ascending limb of the loop of Henle, preventing reabsorption of sodium, potassium, and chloride. This leads to increased urine output and reduced blood volume and pressure. It is commonly used in cardiovascular conditions characterized by fluid overload, such as edema and hypertension.
