Mounjaro (TIRZEPATIDE)
Mounjaro (generic name: TIRZEPATIDE) is a Dual GIP/GLP-1 receptor agonist Recombinant protein drug developed by Eli Lilly. It is currently FDA-approved (first approved 2022) for Diabetes mellitus type 2.
Tirzepatide is a dual GIP and GLP-1 receptor agonist with C20 fatty diacid for albumin binding.
Mounjaro, also known as tirzepatide, is a gastric inhibitory polypeptide receptor agonist that has been studied for various conditions including obesity, overweight, and alcohol use disorder. It is a protein-based drug that has been investigated in clinical trials using interventions such as tirzepatide and saline placebo, as well as nutritional intervention.

Mechanism of action
Tirzepatide selectively binds to and activates both the GIP and GLP-1 receptors, which are the targets for native GIP and GLP-1 peptides. GLP-1 is a physiological regulator of appetite and caloric intake, and nonclinical studies suggest the addition of GIP may further contribute to the regulation of food intake. Both GIP receptors and GLP-1 receptors are found in areas of the brain involved in appetite regulation. Animal studies show that tirzepatide distributes to and activates neurons in brain regions involved in regulation of appetite and food intake. The C20 fatty diacid component enables albumin binding and prolongs the half-life of the molecule.
