Mechanism of action
ChloraPrep combines chlorhexidine gluconate (a broad-spectrum antimicrobial agent) with isopropyl alcohol to provide rapid and sustained skin antisepsis. Chlorhexidine disrupts bacterial cell membranes and denatures proteins, while the alcohol component provides rapid microbicidal activity. This combination is used to reduce the risk of surgical site infections and other skin-related infections by eliminating pathogenic microorganisms at the application site.
