Sulfate, Magnesium
Sulfate, Magnesium is a Electrolyte supplement; anticonvulsant; smooth muscle relaxant Small molecule drug developed by Assistance Publique - Hôpitaux de Paris. It is currently FDA-approved for Seizure prophylaxis and treatment in preeclampsia and eclampsia, Hypertensive emergencies, Constipation (oral formulation).
Magnesium sulfate acts as a central nervous system depressant and smooth muscle relaxant by blocking calcium influx and stabilizing neuronal membranes.
Magnesium sulfate is a small molecule with an unknown mechanism of action. It has been studied as an intervention in various clinical trials, including those for postoperative agitation, pain, and muscle relaxation in patients undergoing lumbar fixation, upper limb injury, and other procedures.

Mechanism of action
Magnesium sulfate works primarily through antagonism of N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptors and inhibition of calcium channels, leading to reduced neuronal excitability and smooth muscle contraction. It is used clinically to prevent and treat seizures, manage hypertensive emergencies, and relieve muscle spasms. The drug also has osmotic laxative properties when administered orally.
