Mechanism of action

The vaccine contains a weakened strain of yellow fever virus (17D strain) that replicates in vaccinated individuals without causing disease, triggering both humoral (antibody) and cell-mediated immune responses. This provides long-term protection against infection with wild-type yellow fever virus. The vaccine is administered as a single dose and confers immunity in approximately 95% of vaccinees within 30 days.
