Mechanism of action
This is a physiologic saline solution containing sodium and chloride ions in concentrations matching human blood plasma (0.9% w/v). It is used intravenously or topically to restore intravascular volume, maintain electrolyte balance, and prevent dehydration. As an isotonic solution, it does not cause cell lysis or crenation and is suitable for general fluid replacement in clinical settings.
