Mechanism of action
Simethicone is a silicone-based antifoaming agent that works as a surfactant to break down foam and reduce the surface tension of gas bubbles in the stomach and intestines. By coalescencing smaller bubbles into larger ones, it facilitates their passage through the GI tract and reduces bloating, pressure, and discomfort. It is not absorbed systemically and acts locally within the gastrointestinal lumen.
