Mechanism of action
Salicylic acid is a beta hydroxy acid (BHA) that dissolves the bonds between dead skin cells, facilitating their removal and unclogging pores. It also has mild anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties. When formulated as a topical ointment, it is absorbed through the stratum corneum to provide keratolytic and therapeutic effects on the skin surface and superficial layers.
