Mechanism of action

S-amlodipine is the active S-enantiomer of amlodipine, a dihydropyridine calcium antagonist. The gentisate salt formulation may improve bioavailability or tolerability. By inhibiting calcium influx into vascular smooth muscle cells, it causes vasodilation and reduces peripheral vascular resistance, thereby lowering blood pressure.
