Mechanism of action

Root canal sealants work by creating an impermeable barrier within the root canal space, sealing lateral canals and apical foramina to prevent ingress of oral bacteria and tissue fluids. They are typically used in conjunction with gutta-percha or other core filling materials as part of endodontic therapy. The sealant adheres to dentin walls and the core material, providing a three-dimensional seal that enhances treatment success rates.
