Priftin (RIFAPENTINE)
Priftin (generic name: RIFAPENTINE) is a Rifamycin Antimycobacterial [EPC] Small molecule drug developed by Sanofi. It is currently FDA-approved (first approved 1998) for Pulmonary tuberculosis.
Priftin works by inhibiting the synthesis of mycolic acid, a key component of the Mycobacterium tuberculosis cell wall.
Priftin is a small molecule antibiotic that inhibits bacterial DNA-directed RNA polymerase. It has been studied as a treatment for various conditions, including osteomyelitis, tuberculosis, and latent tuberculosis infection.

Mechanism of action
Rifapentine, cyclopentyl rifamycin, is an antimycobacterial agent [see Microbiology (12.4)].
