Mechanism of action
Propofol enhances GABAergic inhibitory neurotransmission to produce sedation and anesthesia. Rocuronium competitively blocks acetylcholine at the neuromuscular junction to produce paralysis. Caffeine antagonizes adenosine receptors to promote wakefulness. Acetaminophen reduces pain and fever through unclear mechanisms involving COX inhibition and TRPV1 modulation. Bupivacaine blocks voltage-gated sodium channels in nerve fibers to produce local anesthesia.
