Mechanism of action

Progesterone is a naturally occurring steroid hormone that acts as a ligand for intracellular progesterone receptors (PR-A and PR-B). Upon binding, it modulates gene transcription to induce secretory changes in the endometrium, suppress uterine contractions, and maintain the corpus luteum, thereby supporting early pregnancy establishment and continuation.
