Mechanism of action
Carbon nanoparticles function as a tracer agent that preferentially accumulates in regional lymph nodes after injection near the surgical site. This allows surgeons to identify and visualize sentinel lymph nodes intraoperatively, enabling more precise lymph node dissection and staging. The particles provide contrast for visual identification without requiring radioactive tracers.
