Mechanism of action

Prednisone is a glucocorticoid that inhibits phospholipase A2 and reduces production of inflammatory mediators, suppressing both cellular and humoral immunity. Azithromycin is a macrolide antibiotic that inhibits bacterial protein synthesis via 50S ribosomal subunit binding, and also possesses immunomodulatory properties including reduction of pro-inflammatory cytokines. Together, they address both infectious and inflammatory components of disease.
