Mechanism of action

Potassium is an essential electrolyte required for proper nerve conduction, muscle contraction, and cardiac rhythm. Potassium chloride replacement therapy directly replenishes intracellular and extracellular potassium stores in patients with hypokalemia (low serum potassium). This restores the normal potassium gradient across cell membranes, which is critical for maintaining normal electrical activity in the heart and skeletal muscles.
