Mechanism of action
Acetaminophen is a non-opioid analgesic and antipyretic that works primarily through inhibition of cyclooxygenase (COX) enzymes in the brain and spinal cord, reducing prostaglandin production. This leads to decreased pain perception and lowering of the hypothalamic set point for body temperature. The intravenous formulation provides rapid onset of action suitable for acute postoperative pain management.
