Mechanism of action
Placebo groups in clinical trials receive a formulation identical in appearance and administration to the active drug but lacking the therapeutic agent. This allows researchers to isolate the true pharmacological effect of the investigational drug by controlling for placebo response, natural disease progression, and observer bias. Placebo controls are the gold standard for establishing drug efficacy in Phase 3 trials.
