Mechanism of action

PHMB works by binding to and destabilizing the cell membranes of microorganisms, leading to leakage of cellular contents and cell death. It has activity against a wide range of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, as well as fungi and some viruses. At the 0.02% concentration, it is used topically for antimicrobial purposes, particularly in ophthalmic and wound care applications.
