Mechanism of action

The drug acts as an anti-inflammatory agent and is thought to coat and protect the bladder urothelium by replenishing or stabilizing the glycosaminoglycan (GAG) layer, which is often damaged in interstitial cystitis. This protective mechanism may reduce pain and urinary symptoms associated with bladder inflammation and increased permeability.
