Mechanism of action

The kit uses penicillin G and penicilloyl polylysine (PPL) as test antigens applied via scratch or intradermal injection. In penicillin-sensitized individuals, cross-linking of IgE on mast cells triggers immediate degranulation, releasing histamine and other mediators that produce a localized wheal-and-flare response within 15–20 minutes. This reaction indicates IgE-mediated penicillin allergy and helps guide safe antibiotic selection.
