Mechanism of action
OPV contains three serotypes of live attenuated poliovirus that replicate in the intestinal tract, triggering both mucosal (IgA) and systemic (IgG) immune responses. This oral administration induces intestinal immunity and prevents poliovirus replication and shedding, providing protection against all three poliovirus types and contributing to herd immunity through vaccine virus shedding.
