Mechanism of action
NuLytely contains polyethylene glycol (PEG) 3350, an osmotically active compound that retains water in the intestinal lumen, increasing stool bulk and promoting bowel movements. The solution is formulated with electrolytes (sodium, potassium, chloride, bicarbonate) to maintain electrolyte balance while the osmotic effect cleanses the colon. This mechanism makes it effective for bowel preparation prior to colonoscopy or other gastrointestinal procedures.
