Normal saline pyloric injection
Normal saline pyloric injection is a Small molecule drug developed by Albany Medical College. It is currently FDA-approved for Infantile hypertrophic pyloric stenosis.
Normal saline injection into the pyloric muscle causes mechanical disruption and edema that temporarily obstructs gastric outlet flow, reducing symptoms of pyloric stenosis.
Normal saline pyloric injection is used to treat conditions such as gastroparesis, neuroendocrine tumors, morbid obesity, gastroparesis postoperative, and gastroparesis due to diabetes mellitus. The exact mechanism of normal saline pyloric injection is unknown, but it is administered as an injection of a solution that is chemically similar to lactated Ringer's solution.

Mechanism of action
This is a minimally invasive intervention where sterile normal saline is injected directly into the pyloric sphincter muscle to induce localized swelling and mechanical obstruction relief. The saline causes tissue edema and disruption of the pyloric muscle fibers, which can temporarily widen the pyloric opening or reduce muscle tone. This approach is used as an alternative to surgical pyloromyotomy in select cases of infantile hypertrophic pyloric stenosis.
