Mechanism of action
Ibuprofen is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that inhibits cyclooxygenase (COX) enzymes to reduce prostaglandin synthesis, thereby decreasing inflammation, fever, and pain. The narcotic component (opioid) binds to opioid receptors in the central nervous system to modulate pain perception and provide additional analgesia. This combination is used for moderate to moderately severe pain where either agent alone may be insufficient.
