Mechanism of action
Methylprednisolone acts as a glucocorticoid receptor agonist, translocating to the nucleus to modulate gene expression of inflammatory mediators. It inhibits phospholipase A2, reducing prostaglandin and leukotriene synthesis, and suppresses T-cell activation and antibody production. When administered intravenously at high doses, it provides rapid anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive effects.
