Mechanism of action

This is a procedural antiseptic intervention rather than a pharmaceutical drug. It combines mechanical action (scrubbing) with antimicrobial agents (typically alcohols, chlorhexidine, or iodine-based compounds) to reduce the microbial load on hands before surgical or clinical procedures. The scrubbing action physically dislodges bacteria and viruses while the chemical agents denature microbial cell membranes and proteins.
