Mechanism of action

Ringer Lactate is a balanced electrolyte solution containing sodium, potassium, calcium, chloride, and lactate in physiologic concentrations. It rapidly expands the extracellular fluid compartment to restore perfusion and oxygen delivery to tissues. The lactate component is metabolized by the liver to bicarbonate, providing mild alkalinizing effects and reducing hyperchloremic acidosis compared to normal saline.
