Mechanism of action
Estrogen is administered alongside probiotic bacteria to enhance the gut microbiome's ability to metabolize and recirculate estrogen through the enterohepatic circulation. The estrobolome—the collection of gut bacteria genes involved in estrogen metabolism—is thought to be dysbiotic in certain conditions, and probiotics may restore this function while exogenous estrogen addresses hormonal deficiency. This combination approach targets both hormonal and microbiotic imbalances simultaneously.
