Mechanism of action

Ephedrine-S (the S-enantiomer of ephedrine) acts as a direct and indirect sympathomimetic agent, binding to adrenergic receptors and promoting norepinephrine release from nerve terminals. This results in increased cardiac output, peripheral vasoconstriction, and bronchodilation, making it useful for treating hypotension and bronchospasm. The S-enantiomer is the more pharmacologically active form compared to the R-enantiomer.
