Mechanism of action

Dextromethorphan acts as a non-narcotic cough suppressant by depressing the cough center in the medulla. Diphenhydramine is a first-generation antihistamine that reduces histamine-mediated symptoms like sneezing and itching. Phenylephrine is an alpha-1 adrenergic agonist that causes nasal vasoconstriction to relieve congestion. Cocoa may provide soothing properties and flavor.
