Dalteparin (Fragmin)
Dalteparin (Fragmin) is a Low-molecular-weight heparin (LMWH) Small molecule drug developed by M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. It is currently FDA-approved for Thromboprophylaxis in patients undergoing abdominal surgery, Thromboprophylaxis in patients with restricted mobility during acute illness, Treatment of acute deep vein thrombosis.
Dalteparin is a low-molecular-weight heparin that inhibits blood coagulation by enhancing the activity of antithrombin III against factor Xa and thrombin.
Dalteparin, also known as Fragmin, is an oligosaccharide antithrombin-III activator used to treat various conditions, including venous thromboembolism and pulmonary thromboembolisms. It is administered subcutaneously, either through traditional injections or via once-weekly subcutaneous ports, and its effectiveness can be monitored through point-of-care testing methods such as anti-Xa activity point-of-care testing.

Mechanism of action
Dalteparin binds to and potentiates antithrombin III, a natural anticoagulant, leading to inactivation of activated clotting factors, particularly factor Xa and to a lesser extent thrombin. This prevents thrombus formation and is used for thromboprophylaxis and treatment of thromboembolic disorders. It has a more predictable pharmacokinetic profile and longer half-life compared to unfractionated heparin.
