Mechanism of action
Corticosteroids bind to glucocorticoid receptors in immune cells and epithelial tissues, suppressing pro-inflammatory cytokine production and reducing local inflammation. When applied topically to oral tissues, they decrease swelling, erythema, and discomfort associated with inflammatory oral conditions. This localized delivery minimizes systemic exposure while targeting the affected area directly.
