Mechanism of action
The varicella zoster virus vaccine contains live attenuated virus that replicates in host cells, triggering both humoral (antibody) and cell-mediated immune responses. This primes the immune system to recognize and rapidly respond to natural VZV infection, preventing disease or reducing severity. The vaccine provides long-term protection through immunological memory.
