Mechanism of action

PEG is a non-absorbable polymer that creates an osmotic gradient in the intestinal lumen, retaining water and electrolytes within the bowel. This increases stool bulk and fluidity, facilitating complete colonic cleansing. Colonic lavage with PEG is used to prepare the colon for diagnostic or therapeutic procedures by removing fecal matter and debris.
