Mechanism of action
Azelastine competitively antagonizes H1 histamine receptors on mast cells and other immune cells in nasal tissue, preventing histamine release and reducing allergic inflammation. When applied intranasally, it provides rapid local relief of allergic rhinitis symptoms including nasal congestion, sneezing, and rhinorrhea by suppressing the cascade of allergic mediators at the site of inflammation.
