Mechanism of action

Alpha-lipoic acid (ALA) is a naturally occurring compound that functions as a coenzyme in mitochondrial energy metabolism and possesses both lipophilic and hydrophilic antioxidant properties. It scavenges reactive oxygen species and regenerates other antioxidants such as vitamins C and E, thereby reducing cellular oxidative damage. ALA also modulates inflammatory pathways and may improve mitochondrial function, making it useful in conditions characterized by oxidative stress and metabolic dysfunction.
