Mechanism of action
Albumin is a major plasma protein that maintains oncotic pressure and serves as a carrier for various substances; when combined with an electrolyte solution, it replaces both the protein and ionic components lost during hemorrhage, severe burns, or other conditions causing fluid depletion. The electrolyte component restores sodium, potassium, chloride, and other ions necessary for normal cellular and cardiovascular function. This combination is used for volume resuscitation and nutritional support in critically ill patients.
